Configuring Your Email:
This was originally written for Outlook Express but the information is the same for Outlook and Windows Mail. The setup questions may be worded or arranged somewhat differently in other email programs, but the general information is the same. Will also work for setting up IncrediMail.
Click on TOOLS | ACCOUNTS
Click on the mail account name one time to highlight it, then click on PROPERTIES
General: (title of tab at top of page)
- Mail Account can be whatever you want to call your mailbox.
- User Information should be easy to do!
- Pay particular attention to Reply Address. It should be the same as your e-mail address. If you don't enter it (or enter it wrong!), no one will be able to answer your mail.
Server:
There are 3 sections on this page, as follows:
- Server Information.. My incoming mail server is a POP3 server. You can't change this.
- On the line that starts out "Incoming Mail (POP3)", enter mail.tnh.net .
- On the line that starts out "Outgoing Mail (SMTP)", enter mail.tnh.net
- ....Yes, both lines are exactly the same!
- Incoming Mail Server.. Account name is your email address.. enter your email address. It will look something like username@tnh.net . Then, in the next line, enter the password you were assigned. Note: it will show up as little x's on your screen. You will not see what you really type, so be especially careful to type it correctly. It must be exactly the same or it will not work.
- DO NOT check "Log on using secure password..." leave this blank!
- Click on the box "My server requires authentication" to put a checkmark in it
Connection:
- UNCHECK the box "Always connect using..." This will force Outlook Express to use the same settings as Internet Explorer.
Security:
- In nearly all cases, you will not change anything in this area. However, if you have a need for "secure" e-mail, you must follow the instructions that will pop up for you to obtain and use a security certificate. That is not a part of your TNH email service and we cannot help you with it.
Advanced:
- Server Port Numbers.. Do NOT change these numbers!
- Server Time-Out.. Normally the default setting is sufficient. If you constantly receive a message that the Mail Server cannot be reached and the operation has "timed out", you can move this marker to a longer time. This makes your computer wait longer for a connection before it gives up.
- Delivery.. Do NOT check the box to leave messages on the server if you value your e-mail account! This will cause all of your email to be saved on your Service Provider's mail server and will quickly fill up your mailbox. Then, all new mail will be refused.
- Sending.. Do NOT check this box unless you have a specific need to break your messages into smaller increments. This is only valuable if you are sending messages that are larger than your account permits or larger than your destination is permitted to receive... and it doesn't always work as advertised anyway.
Now click on APPLY to save your work
Click on OK to close the program.
In the ACCOUNTS box, click on CLOSE.
This completes the necessary configuration for Outlook Express, Outlook and Windows Mail.
